Title: " View From the Standpipe: John Falter's World, A "
The late John Falter, a nationally known illustrator and native Nebraskan, is the subject of this nostalgic and probing look into the creative mind of one of America's most popular artists. Falter humorously recalls his boyhood memories and later successes in locations ranging from his studio on Philadelphia's
historic Chestnut Hill to Falls City, Nebraska, where he grew up. As a boy, one of his favorite spots was atop the 75-foot Falls City water tower. His fascination with this "helicopter-like" viewpoint carried into both his serious and lighthearted works and especially his Saturday Evening Post covers. Falter produced 185 Post covers -- many of them panoramic paintings dramatizing the little crises of life, but on a whole-town scale. This program follows the artist's career from his early work during the Depression doing covers for the "pulp" magazines, through his highly successful career as a top magazine illustrator to his later concentration on accurate historical painting.">Saturday Evening Post covers.
